Gatehouse of Fleet rules ok.
The Family Simpson is an unsigned independent 30 year old singer / songwriter based in Aberdeen, Scotland. Influenced by postcard moments he works hard to create brief forays examining emotions and situations from a variety of viewpoints. He has been writing and recording his own material for over ten years. He has appeared sporadically at venues in Aberdeen (Dr Drakes, Cafe Drummonds, Wild Boar, Henry J Beans, The Tunnels, The Lemon Tree and Peacock Arts) and Glasgow (Daily Record 192 Big Break Acoustic competition 2003) since early 2002 and provided support for artists including Anni Rossi, Rollin Hunt, Monkey Swallows The Universe and Dean Owens. When the whim takes him he records, remixes and releases via the Internet.
Armed with an acoustic guitar, an Akai Headrush E2 loop pedal and a variety of junk-shop instruments his songs could be described as pop-askew. His quirky songwriting has captured the ear of a number of fanzines as well as judges in the BBC Sold On Song competition (2004) where the track 'Soup' resulted in some minor label interest.
He has had the honour of appearing on an international compilation CD released by Ouzel Records alongside June of '44 as well as appearing on various fanzine compilations. 'The Body Language Says' featured on Unknown Public's Bloody Amateurs box set (2002) after Mark Russell of BBC Radio 3's Mixing It programme described his song writing style as "The UK's answer to Beck". An instrumental track has appeared in an Italian surfing video (2004).
He has released seven CDs on his own CDR label, selling them from his guitar case at gigs as well as his website. A number of tracks from each of these CDRs have been played on Scottish indie stations, US college/pirate stations, Swiss, American & Czech podcasts and have been favourably reviewed by fanzines and online music sites.
